Setup & Operation

Placing The Monitor

The monitor will provide an average Radon reading in pico curies per liter, representative of a rolling 30 day average and also the most recent 48 hours. These averages will be computed and displayed on the display when the button is pushed and quickly released.

Note that the EPA action level for recommended Radon Mitigation is 4.0 pCi/L, at or above this level you should consider mitigating the property being monitored.

The object of placing the monitor is to allow passive air flow into the monitor via the vent slots on the back side of the monitor.

The monitor should be placed in the lowest habitable area of the home or business. Basements, whether finished or not, are preferred. If your home is built over a crawl space or on a concrete slab, you should then place the monitor on the main floor immediately adjacent to the crawl space or slab.

Whether the monitor is in the basement or on the main floor, note the following placement procedure;

  • Place the monitor so that it is elevated between 20 inches to 6 feet from the floor.
  • Place the  monitor in an area where it will not be disturbed.
  • Place the monitor at least three feet from any doors or windows to the exterior.
  • Place the monitor at least one foot from the wall.
  • Place the monitor at least four inches from any other object.
  • Place the monitor at least four feet from direct heat, fireplaces and furnaces.
  • Keep away from fans, drafty areas, direct sunlight, televisions, radios, and never place the monitor on top of a computer.
  • NOTE: Do not place the monitor in kitchens, bathrooms or laundry rooms.
